The tax rates change as the amount of income earned increases.
Income Tax Rate
$0-$12,000 2%
$12,000-$28,000 3%
$28,000-$Any 6%
The income earned is $48,000. That is greater than the 1st and 2nd income brackets so the tax applies to the full range of brackets 1 and 2.
2% x ($12,000 – $0)
+ 3% x ($28,000 – $12,000)
—————————
$240 + $480 = $720
In the 3rd or highest bracket, only the income from the next lower tax bracket, $28,000, to $48,000 is taxed at 6%. That amount taxed at 6% is $48,000 – $28,000 = $20,000.
6% x ($48,000 – $28,000) = 6% x $20,000 = $1,2000
The total tax of all brackets summed together is $720 + $1,200 = $1,920.
*Note the tax rates apply separately in each income bracket. In other words, the 6% rate cannot be applied to all $48,000. It only applies to the $20,000 income above the next lower tax bracket.
For #40, I don’t understand the wording of the question. Since 6 days ago was Wed, wouldn’t it be Tuesday, so wouldn’t you have to find 701 days from Tuesday?
